Christena Turner

Associate Professor, UC San Diego Department of Sociology

Christena Turner is an associate professor at UC San Diego’s Department of Sociology and an affiliated faculty member at the School. Her areas of research and teaching include Chinese and Japanese Studies, culture, consciousness, labor relations and workplace cultures, everyday life, religion and ethnography.

Turner has published “Japanese Workers in Protest: An Ethnography of Consciousness and Experience,” University of California Press (1995). Her current research includes work on globalization and transformations in workplace practices and cultures, class and the practices of foot binding in China, and images of Japan in the American imagination.
